The Seven Dirtiest Words

George Carlin courtesy of Time.com

In the 1960’s famed comedienne, Lenny Bruce, was arrested on multiple occasions.  His crime was to utter nine profane words during his stand up performances.  Oh, I promise you, they were the most profane of profane words.  But it makes me laugh now.  I remember watching Eddy Murphy’s “RAW” in the late eighties at my brother’s house.  There was Murphy on my brother’s living room TV repeatedly saying the same words that got Bruce arrested.  I honestly think Murphy’s performance would have made Bruce blush.

Bruce’s act, arrests and subsequent convictions were the inspiration for another comedienne.  In 1972 George Carlin, in response to the FCC, developed a routine known as Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television.  He did a similar monologue known as “Filthy Words” but the act was truly best known as “Seven Dirty Words”.  That act is still considered a classic today.

SIDE NOTE: For the record I will NOT mention those “Seven Dirty Words” here.  I still find them to be quite obscene and offensive. If you want to know what they are I would suggest checking the Internet.

Fast forward about forty years.  It seems we have a new list of words and phrases.  To some these are even more profane and offensive than anything Bruce ever said.  The other ironic part is the fact that many of the words Bruce was arrested for are now common place in our language.  We see them on TV daily.  They have in fact become “less offensive”.  The irony is that the new words and phrases are quite the opposite.  These words seem to get more and more offensive to more and more people as time goes on.  I didn’t think that was possible,

So what are the new “Seven Dirtiest Words”?  Here is my list of words and phrases:

1) One Nation Under God (also includes In God We Trust, God, Jesus and Lord)

2) Liberty (also includes Freedom)

3) Terrorist (also includes Extremist, Jihad and sometimes Muslim)

4) Amen (also includes Bible, pray and/or prayer)

5) America (also includes American and Patriot)

6) Marriage (also includes Traditional Family)

7) Illegal Immigrant (also includes Illegals and Illegal Alien)

You may think I am being funny.  You may think this is a big joke.  But it’s not.  Sadly, this is serious.

On Sunday, Father’s Day, during the U.S. Open Golf Championship NBC chose to blank out the words “under God” not once but twice during the reading of the Pledge of Allegiance.  Their worry was that they would offend someone.  They did – ME – and millions of other Americans.

Over the last month we have seen several cases of High School valedictorians being told that the tradition of a prayer at graduation was a violation of law.  Others were told they could not speak of the things God has done in their lives.  They could not pray or say “Amen”.  They could not even utter the words “God” or “Jesus”.  These rulings were not coming from some liberal, do-gooder principal.  They were coming from the U.S. Court system.  You know, the one based on the Constitution.  Some rulings were overturned but others stood.

We have a President who struggles to use the word “terrorist” or “jihad”.  He is afraid he will offend someone.  We can no longer use the word “illegal” when we describe those who broke the law to come to this country.  We now refer to them as “undocumented workers” and weep as we discuss how they came here for a “better life”.  We spend BILLIONS upon BILLIONS propping up countries who don’t even like us while our own schools go to pot and our own citizen’s struggle.

So no I am not kidding about this.  This is not a joke.  I had a liberal friend ask me recently what “we” mean when “we” say “we want to take our country back”.  She asked, take it back from whom?

Personally, I want to take it back from those who have forgotten what the Constitution says and means.  I want to take it back from those who have forgotten what the Constitution says about my 1st Amendment rights.  I want to take it back so it is alright for a teenage girl in Texas who is graduating high school to say “I’m doing okay and it is because GOD is in my life”.  I want to take it back from those who believe saying “Amen” or “Merry Christmas” is NOT me trying to offend them but instead that I am wishing them well.  I want to take it back from those who think because I follow a Bible that says a man marrying a man is wrong and that doesn’t make me evil or hateful because I also believe you hate the sin not the sinner.  I want to take it back from those who think that being a Patriot and loving this nation, with all its flaws, is a bad thing.  I want to take it back from those who think I am wrong to want to see all those who support the killing of American’s – because they are Americana – dead.  Better them than us I say.  I want to take it back from those who think that the word terrorist is wrong despite the fact they killed 3000 people in New York City.  You are not Freedom Fighters, you are evil.  I want my country back from those who refuses to condemn terrorist acts and try to appease them because that makes you as guilty as the terrorists.  I want my country back from those who believe taking care of others before taking care of our own is a good thing.  I want my country back from those who don’t understand the term “illegal”.

Lenny Bruce was arrested and convicted for “his crime” of using the “nine dirty words” in his concerts.  After his death he was posthumously pardoned for his crimes of offending people by the state of New York.  Now, as I said, I won’t use the seven dirty words of George Carlin.  I instead will use the seven dirtier words, phrases and expressions I listed.  I will use them openly, repeatedly and proudly.  And I suspect that when my time comes – I like Bruce will receive a posthumous pardon for my crimes from the only judge I truly worry about.

God Bless America!!!

In Memory of the Illegal Immigrants

On Wednesday night my wife and I had the distinct pleasure (sarcasm) of attending a school board meeting at Dayton High School.  I’m sure my son, who is 10, enjoyed being dragged along.  The Lyon County School Board was discussing the possibility of Lyon County going from a five day school week to a four day school week.  Among other things there would be cost savings.  With Lyon facing a two to three million dollar shortfall, the funds are needed.  Despite the fact the Governor and Legislature agreed to a budget that day, how it will affect the schools is not yet known.  One thing we are told when trying to close the budget gap for the schools is to “think outside of the box”.  So I did.

That is right, I thought outside the box.  I thought and I thought and I thought.  It must have been a good forty or fifty seconds and then it came to me.  Stop supporting the illegals (sound the trumpets).  Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?  Stop paying for those who are not here legally – hence the term illegal.

But seriously folks, let’s look at some facts.  First the groundwork:

1) On Wednesday the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that based on census numbers the PEW Hispanic Center reports that 7.2% of citizen’s in Nevada are here illegally.

2) The Federation for Immigration Reform (FAIR) states that approximately $630M is spent annually on illegals (schools, medical, etc.)

3) Illegals, through taxes and such, return about $216M to Nevada.

4) That means the net cost to Nevada is about $414M per year.

Based on those facts I said to myself, “self, where could we use that money if it were only spent on those who are in Nevada legally”?  Here are a few thoughts:

Education: At the school board meeting it was said Lyon County is looking at a net loss in the upcoming year of about $100 per child.  This will come from the usual subjects – layoffs, salary reductions and program loses.  But what if we had that $414M in Nevada?  Well, according to the census there are 548,850 kids in the 5 to 19 age group.  In other words school aged children.  Take away the 7.2% of illegals and 509,333 legal students remain in Nevada.  Divide the $414M by student and we can spend an additional $812.24 for each and every legal child in the state.  In 2009 the average dollars per child spent nationally was $10,499.  Nevada spent $10,305 per child.  Add the $812 and we would be far ahead of the National average.

Law Enforcement: I am using Lyon County as an example again.  Lyon County (population 51,980) could be looking at losing 11 deputies.  That is in addition to officers who have already left and not been replaced.  I looked at Transparent Nevada and determined the average deputy, with salary and benefits, makes about $90,000 per year.  Assume that is a state average.  Put the $414M into law enforcement and we can keep/hire 4597 law enforcement officers state wide.  I bet that would make you feel safer.

Plug The Budget Hole:  The current budget put forth by Governor Sandoval will fall short due to the Supreme Court ruling.  The deficit could be as little as $63M or as much as $700M.  The $414M would go a long way, maybe all the way, to plugging that hole.  No sunset extensions needed.

And not wanting to be accused of being insensitive, I offer these suggestions to the bleeding hearts out there:

Unemployment: Recent numbers put out by the labor department state that unemployment in Nevada is at 12.5%.  Basing that number on the workforce it appears that there are approximately 194,000 capable workers out of work in Nevada at this time.  If we were to put the $414M into unemployment we could pay each of those LEGAL citizens an additional $2134.02 per year.  That works out to about $177.83 per month.  I bet that would help.

Medical Savings Accounts for the Elderly:  This is a good one.  With all the cost of medical care and medicine for the elderly we can use the illegals money (it’s actually our money) to support those most in need.  It is estimate that in 2009 there were 297,000 residents of Nevada over the age 65.  We can take the $414M in illegals money and divide it among the elderly.  This will be a windfall of $1390.66 per senior citizen.  That money can be placed in a medical savings account for each person to use for doctor’s visits, medicine, etc.  How great is that?

Sure, I realize my numbers may be a bit fuzzy.  But they are close.  And for all the absurdity I think they prove a point.

Here is the real issue.  As we try and support our schools, elderly and the general population we see millions being spent on those that should not receive it.  We must take the candy dish away.  We can talk immigration reform all you want but the fact is that is like telling a bank robber “if you promise you won’t rob banks anymore we won’t prosecute you”.  I also understand that of the $414M some will always remain for those in emergency situations.  I wouldn’t want anyone accusing me of allowing a person to “die on the streets”.  But we as a Nation need to figure out our priorities are and work from there.

Every election cycle we have masses of candidates explain how bad the immigration issue is.  They tell us we must remove incentives.  We talk about how we must secure the border.  They are all the same.  Then they get into office and the conviction they had disappears.  They don’t want to be called a racist.  They are afraid they will be considered insensitive. They fear not getting elected again.  But it is time to end this craziness.

My question: Is there one politician who will stand up and do what they promised with the conviction they had when elected?

The Dream – Act One!

If I said the name John Moschitta, Jr. it would mean little to most of you.  If I say “Fed Ex” a few more of you may figure it out.  Now if I say John Moschitta, Jr., the fast talker on the Fed Ex commercials of the 1980’s most of you would be on board.  Moschitta was an actor and improv artist who made himself famous by talking fast.  Before the Guinness Book of World Records eliminated the category Moschitta was credited as being the “world’s fastest talker” at an amazing 586 words per minute.  He did hundreds of commercials and appeared on TV shows.  He was on the Academy Awards and sang and danced on the Emmy’s.  The guy is amazing.  But I must admit he scared me.  I just knew that somewhere in his rapid fire delivery he was saying something like “use of Fed Ex allows us to take your home and first born child”.  He spoke so fast he instilled fear.  If I didn’t understand the “whole” commercial I could be taken advantage of.

Welcome to the Dream Act.  On the surface the proponents can make it sound so good.  But it is not what they say that should make you nervous.  It is what they are NOT saying that should make you nervous.  What you don’t hear and don’t know can hurt you.

First look at the criteria that must be met to be eligible for the Dream Act.  There are five basic points:

1) Have proof of having arrived in the United States before age 16

2) Have proof of residence in the United States for at least five consecutive years since their date of arrival, compliance with Selective Service

3) Be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time of the bills enactment

4) Have graduated from an American high school or obtained a GED

5) Be of “good moral character”

If you apply for the Dream Act and fulfill the criteria above you can become eligible for citizenship after six years.  According to most estimates there are currently about 2.1M eligible illegal immigrants.  Of that number the Migration Policy Institute estimates that only about 825,000 would actually attain citizenship.  But as I said I am more worried about what has NOT been said than what has been said.  So here are a few points and questions:

Because Harry Reid Owes Them:

Harry Reid had strong Hispanic support in his recent re-election.  It is estimated that 16% of voters in Nevada were Hispanic and Reid took a large majority.  He has now promised to try and pass the bill during the lame-duck portion of the 111th Congress to show his thanks.  But the question I raise is who does he owe?  The Hispanic voters that helped Reid in his re-election were legal residents – correct? It has to be assumed that the 16% of Hispanic voters are in the country legally if they voted.  If they were not they should not have voted.  So Reid doesn’t owe illegals anything.  Or does he?

Can The Dream Act Stand Alone?

Any bill, presented by Republicans or Democrats, should be able to stand on its own merits.  But can the Dream Act?  Harry Reid doesn’t think so.  Reports are that Reid will add the Dream Act to the Defense Authorization bill as he did in September.  Why would this be necessary if it is such a wonderful win-win bill? Even if Reid fails to get this passed now you can be assured that it will not be the last time he tries.

What About Those Who Don’t Meet The Requirements?

On Monday Heidi Harris had Fernando Romero, president of Hispanics in Politics, on her show to discuss the Act.  Harris raised a good point and one that I think Romero tripped over in his answer.  Romero repeatedly said that the Dream Act would only affect 2.1M illegals.  He kept referring to those eligible for the Dream Act as the best and the brightest brain power that could be used in the U.S.  Harris then asked – what about those who are too weak to enter the military or not “college material”.  After initially avoiding the question – Romero stated they simply would not make it under the Dream Act.  Harris stated that this seemed extremely unfair and asked how it would be dealt with.  Romero’s answer was that those who failed to meet current Dream Act criteria would have to be dealt with as part of later “comprehensive immigration reform”.  So there you have it.  The Dream Act is just the first shot.  The plan is to “save” this 2.1M and then move on to the next.  Again – it is all about what is not being said.

Will Mr. Romero Support Deportation Of All Who Fail To Meet The Requirements?

Using the Migration Policy Institutes own numbers there will be 2.1M person’s eligible for the Dream Act.   They believe that only 825,000 will meet and complete the criteria to gain citizenship.  That means 1,275,000 will fail to complete those requirements.  Will the Migration Policy Institute, Fernando Romero, Hispanics in Politics and all others that support the bill agree that those that fail should be immediately deported?  What they have asked for is an opportunity for these “children” to stay in the United States legally.  If they fail to maintain the criteria and take advantage of this opportunity shouldn’t they go? They obviously do not want to be United States citizens.

What If They Don’t Know They Are Illegal?

One argument is many of these “young people” were brought here as children and don’t know they are illegal until they try to get a job or a drivers license.  I say – not my problem.  If their parents chose to bring them here illegally and never took the time to tell them it seems this is a parenting issue.  Not one for me to correct.

Fading Back Into The Woodwork:

So the idea is we will allow people to apply for the Dream Act.  First I would like to point out that if a person does not meet the initial requirements they will not apply.  Therefore any person with a record or who did not graduate high school will never be seen.  They simply won’t apply.  Therefore it does not solve the problem.  Second, anyone who applies but does not complete the requirements (quits school, breaks the law) at any point during the six years will simply fade back into the woodwork.  They have lived that way this long so going back to that life won’t be an issue.

The Results:

The Dream Act solves nothing.  It allows some to become citizens.  It creates no issues for those who do not meet the requirements.  They will continue their life as usual.  This is nothing but an attempt at amnesty for one group in hopes others will follow.  It is the first of many shots.  There have been many attempts at amnesty.  Ted Kennedy tried in the 1960’s.  Reagan gave amnesty in the 1980’s.  But we cannot continually allow more and more to gain citizenship without becoming tough on the other side.  That is why Reagan’s amnesty package failed miserably.  He followed through on extending amnesty but failed to properly close the borders.  If supporters of illegal immigrants want “real reform” they need to bring something to the table.  Something far more than “give us what we want and we promise in the end everything will be fine”.  We have been there and done that.  It failed.  Shame on all of us if we fall for it again.

BEST OF: Truer Words Have Never Been Spoken

NOTE: This article was originally posted on Muth’s Untruths and Other Nevada Politics on May 8, 2010.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag…… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

These words were spoken by Theodore Roosevelt. There is a discrepancy on the date but he did so in either 1907 or 1919. It was as if he looked into the future. Truer words have never been spoken.

God Bless America!

From Sea To Shining Sea

Here is your trivia question for today. What do New York and California have in common? The answer is they are two states that if they were not paying for illegal immigrants they would not have a budget deficit. Instead they would have a surplus. That is correct. According to the latest report issued by FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) New York and California’s output on illegal immigrants is larger than their state deficit. You have heard me mention the FAIR report before. But I was quoting the February 2009 report. Just last week the new report was issued and shows both federal and state numbers. All I can say is things are getting worse. A lot worse.

At the Federal level the report says that the U.S. Government (i.e. you and me) is spending $28.8 billion. But let’s be fair. Those same illegal immigrants add $9.5 billion to our economy. The net output for the Federal government is $19.3 billion dollars. Now I looked at that number and thought it would be a lot worse. It is. That is just the Federal output. Now for the state numbers.

If we look at the combined of state cost in the United States what we see is this. Outlays totaling $84.2 billion. Income from taxes equals $4 billion. The net cost to states is $80.2 billion. Combine the state and federal numbers and the post tax outlay is just under $100 billion dollars. Better yet it really looks like this: $100,000,000,000.

Now I have heard the excuses. FAIR is a political group. They fudge their numbers. Their methodology is flawed. Make all the excuses you want. Do you want me to say they fudge the numbers by 25%? How about 50%? So the number is really only $50 billion or $75 billion. Are you going to tell me that it is good? In a nation with 10% unemployment where we are extending unemployment benefits with no clue as to where the money is coming from – is $50 billion good?

Reality is if you really wanted to attack FAIRs methodology I bet you can’t change the numbers by more than 10%.
Now – based on the fact that most of you are conservatives you probably are as bothered by these numbers as I am. The rest of you are furious at me. You think I am lying. Worse yet you think I am a heartless racist who wants to take down the Mexican. Well your argument is not going to work. I have enough evidence and more importantly friends who can attest to the fact I am NOT a racist. I simply believe in the law. I get angry when someone is sentenced to 25 years and only serves 13 because of “good behavior”. I get upset when someone gets off on a murder charge because in the heat of the moment the officer forgets to read a murderer his Miranda rights. I can hate it all I want but the fact is the law is the law. And the law says there is a process to come to America. If you don’t follow the rules to come here you don’t belong. If you don’t belong you don’t deserve benefits.

The argument that is always presented is “who will do the jobs the immigrants do?” The claim is that Americans will not do “those jobs”. Why do people not want to do “those jobs”? Because we are as soft on our own citizens as we are on illegal immigrants. Along with taking benefits from illegals we must also tie the benefits we give to citizens to effort. It will no longer be good enough to sit on the sidelines and expect a free check. Imagine if we made every person who receives food stamps work 8 hours a week at a soup kitchen. If you want your welfare check you need to put in 10 hours a week picking up trash downtown or in the park. I be a lot of people would decide that 40 hours picking fruit or cleaning hotel rooms is better than the alternative. If they don’t we at least have clean parks, clean streets and a lot more people helping in soup kitchens fed.

Think of how much better or education system would be with another forty billion dollars. What if we added another 20 billion on national security? Or 30 billion to police and fire? Will it solve all of the problems? No. But it will help quite a bit.

The system is out of control. For those of us living in Nevada you might like to know our state numbers:

Outlays: $1.191 billion
Income: $62.6 million
Cost to Nevada: $1.129 Billion

Some other facts that will shock and upset you:

1) Every legal household puts out $1,117 per year covering illegals
2) $52 billion is spent annually in this nation to educate illegals

Is It Now Illegal To Be American?

On May 5, 2010 five students from Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California made National news. The reason? They chose to wear American Flag t-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. For their crime they were sent home. The vice principal of Live Oak claimed this was an obvious attempt to incite problems. The controversy was loud and boisterous on both sides. One side claimed they were American’s in America and can where an American flag anytime, anywhere. On the other side were those who stated these were just five punk kids trying to start trouble. Some even called them racists. I’ll assume you can figure out what side I was on.

Here we are three weeks later and I don’t know if that incident was ever solved. What I do know is a new one has arose and I challenge anyone to justify this. Charlie Price lives in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He is 28 years old and has a wife Dawn. Charlie served 8 years in the US military serving time in Iraq and Kosovo. Charlie is proud of his time and proud of America. Last November Charlie and Dawn decided they wanted to show their pride and began decorating their apartment. The crowing piece was to hang an American flag on the inside of their dining room window. It has been there ever since.

Charlie and Dawn were informed last Wednesday that they were in violation of the rental agreement at the Brookside Apartments (managed by Midwest Realty Management) and the flag must be removed. The management company would allow them to display the flag through the Memorial Day weekend but then it must be removed. Failure to do so would be a violation of the agreement and they would face eviction. This announcement has Veteran’s groups up in arms.

“As a veteran, it sickens me that the Dawn and Charlie Price’s building management company would imply that the American flag could be construed as offensive by their residents,” said Ryan Gallucci, a spokesman for AmVets.

“We’re talking about our most revered national symbol. This is insulting to anyone who has defended our flag honorably, like Charlie Price.”

Initially Midwest was taking a hard line on the problem. They stated to a local newspaper

“This policy was developed to insure that we are fair to everyone as we have many residents from diverse backgrounds,” the statement read. “By having a blanket policy of neutrality we have found that we are less likely to offend anyone and the aesthetic qualities of our apartment communities are maintained.”

This problem hit the airways fast and hard. A Facebook page was developed by Dawn “Freedom To Display The American Flag”. Fox news picked up on the story. There was a whirlwind of activity. At the writing of this article Midwest Realty has issued the following statement on their website:

“We are pleased to announce that we have come to a mutual agreement with the Prices that allows them to keep their American flag.
We would like to apologize to the Prices and to all American veterans. It was never our intention to hurt the Prices or disrespect what Mr. Price and all veterans have sacrificed for each and every one of us.
We have learned from this situation and will be revising our policy to allow our residents to honor America and display the American flag in a manner similar to the Prices.
Again we apologize to the Prices and anyone else who was offended by our actions. It is our sincere hope that our apology will be accepted and the changes we are making will be beneficial to our company and our residents.”

I do think this is wonderful new for Dawn and Charlie. I also commend Midwest Realty for changing their policy, even if it did take national attention to cause them to do so. But the question continues. How many more times must we hear stories like this? How many more times will our flag be trampled on to serve political correctness. Let me be clear. This is America and I don’t give a DAMN if you are offended. If you are offended go somewhere that you are will not be. Yes – that sounds like a “love it or leave statement” and is exactly what I meant. This is not the time for Americans to sit down and shut up. It is time for Americans to stand up and say THIS IS AMERICA AND WE ARE PROUD. To quote Danny Tarkanian – it is time for “Common Sense Over Political Correctness”. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Truer Words Have Never Been Spoken

(NOTE: Thanks to Bill Manders for bringing this to my attention)

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. Is Chad Christensen Grandstanding?

Yesterday, US Senate candidate Chad Christensen held a press conference. The point of Christensen’s press conference was to announce that he had submitted a bill which will be modeled after the recently passed Arizona bill regarding illegal immigrants. Christensen claimed that “if we don’t do something about illegal immigration, Nevada will go bankrupt”. Christensen claimed he has been working on this type of legislation for four years. Despite that the timing seems very strange.

First, the announcement comes just over one month prior to the June 8th primary. Christensen has been training badly in the polls. At last week’s KDWN debate a straw poll showed that only about 10 percent of attendees felt Christensen won the debate. That was dead last among the five participants. So is this Chad’s do or die moment? Is Chad doing a little Grandstanding?

Though I support Chad’s position on the issue I can’t believe the motive is only the legislation. Last night on Face to Face, Jon Ralston asked Christensen about his motives. Christensen says they had nothing to do with the Senate race. But let’s look at some facts.

1) While making his announcement Christensen posted himself behind a podium with a “Chad Christensen for US Senate” sign attached. This on its own is not much evidence but go on.

2) Christensen asked Governor Gibbons to call a special session to review the legislation. Chad could not honestly believe Gibbons would consider this? This is the same Jim Gibbons who at the Reno debate two weeks ago announced that Nevada does not have an illegal immigration problem. That because we are not a border state. There are an estimated 250,000 illegals in Nevada and more coming after the Arizona law. But there is no problem.

3) Can a state that has no money afford to call a special session so that are Democrat top heavy assembly can nix the idea before it ever gets started?

As I said I agree with the position but it was never going to happen.

Following Christensen on Face to Face was Mariano Lemus Gas. He is Mexico’s consul in Las Vegas. In what was a statement that made me laugh he said we cannot call all illegal immigrants criminals. He said it is unfair to lump then all together as criminals. Fact is they are ALL criminals. They broke US law to come here. He also used the line that illegal immigrants pay taxes too. Yes they do – in some cases. But according to the Federation For American Immigration Reform (FAIR) here are the true numbers for Nevada:

Outlays $629.9 Million
Receipts $216.2 Million
Net Cost $413.7 Million

Chad it is a great idea. But face facts – you were Grandstanding.

Nevada Governor – There Is Only One Choice

I will keep today short and sweet.

Last week at the Anger Is Brewing debate in Reno Governor Gibbons was roundly booed when he announced that Nevada does not have an illegal immigrant problem. Brian Sandoval was booed several times including when he announced he was against Yucca Mountain and felt that the current above ground storage at 106 nationwide sites was sufficient. Mike Montandon knocked out a Home Run often garnering huge cheers.

Last night was the highly publicized KDWN debate in Las Vegas. Sandoval and Gibbons both managed to pull out of the debate in the last week. So what was to be a debate turned into town hall for Montandon. Again Montandon was hugely popular.

This begs the question. Is there really a choice here? Vote Montandon for Governor.

Could I Have An Arizona Ice Tea With My Nachos?

Sorry I’m so late with this post but this one took a lot of research.

So it begins, the full blown hysteria over the newly signed Arizona Illegal Immigration Law. Some are praising it. Others are protesting it. Some vow to fight it in court as Unconstitutional. Others promote it as Constitutional based on the fact the Federal Government is not properly protecting us. This, I imagine, will be a long fight.

Some of the critics are funny. They seem to be spewing statements at brick neck speed without so much as thinking about what they are saying. The best was a call for a boycott on all products from Arizona. Specifically named was Arizona Iced Tea. Arizona was fine with that boycott. Arizona Iced Tea is made in New York. Then there was a call for all to boycott Arizona Diamondbacks games. For anyone who is not aware there is profit sharing in baseball. Even if the D’Backs didn’t sell one ticket this year they would still likely make a profit. A side note for all you Ace’s fans. The Ace’s are the minor league team for the D’Backs. That which might hurt the D’Backs would also hurt the Ace’s. California State Senate President Darrell Steinberg has requested that Governor Schwartznegger and the state of California stop doing any and all business with Arizona businesses. Have they thought about the fact that there are about 1.8 million Hispanics in Arizona? 1.3 million of whom are legal. I am sure many of those own businesses in Arizona. So to attempt to save the illegal immigrants California wants to harm the legal immigrants. That is forward thinking.

I am amazed, even at those who are conservatives who have come out against the law. Lindsey Graham for one. But I guess that is not a huge surprise. Jeb Bush and Meg Whitman are concerned. Marco Rubio, the GOP golden child in Florida said “requiring people to carry documentation is not really something Americans are comfortable with, the notion of a police state”. Mr. Rubio – please check your wallet. I believe you will find your Driver’s License.

B.H. Obama stated that the Arizona Law is “a product of peoples frustration about the border” and “hundreds of thousands of people are coming in” who are “not playing by the rules”. Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Mr. President, Arizona put this law in place because you and the rest of the government are not doing your jobs. Constitutional or not – WAKE UP!

Now some of this on both sides is getting silly. As a sort of tit-for-tat response to the call by California to boycott Arizona there has been a new boycott call. This time some are saying we will boycott any and all “Mexican” run businesses (restaurants, stores, etc.). I urge you to please not do this. Most businesses owned by persons of Mexican ancestry are either owned by US citizens or Mexican Nationals here legally. They are the ones who did it the right way. They are the ones we should praise and hold up as the standard. My suggestion would be to talk to the owners. Find out how and if they are here legally. Ask how they feel about illegal immigration and if they would knowingly hire illegals. If they did things right, thank them. And by all means continue to support them and if possible support them more.

A wonderful lady called Bill Manders yesterday. I believe her name was Veronica. Veronica came to America 30+ years ago as a teenager – legally. When she turned 18 she wanted to become a citizen and studied to do so. Veronica had hardly a hint of an accent. She said she learned English, not through ESL, but by being immersed in the language. She said her husband’s story was much the same. Veronica stressed that we cannot ease laws or implement amnesty. She said it was the hard work and long process that made her appreciate her US citizenship even more. Veronica said that despite the fact that illegals were “her people” she could not support anyone who did not come to this country the “right way”. Veronica is a great Mexican. But more so Veronica is a great American. God bless her.
